In addition, metal shingle roofs will often cost less than most architectural standing seam roofs, while providing the same level of protection, durability and longevity.
As leading experts in roofing replacement and home repair services, let NC Rebuild, Inc. give more insight into the basics of metal roof shingles.
What Is It All About?
Metal shingle roofs are the second most popular residential metal roofing type, after standing seam. Today, there is a wide variety of metal shingle styles, most of which are manufactured using G90 galvanized steel and aluminum, while some comprise copper and even zinc shingles. Many metal shingle styles closely resemble cedar shingle and natural slate impression, but will cost either the same (as in case with cedar shingles) or considerably less (slate impression metal shingles) to install. However, you can expect your metal shingles to last a lot longer than cedar shingles.
Most metal shingles also come painted with Kynar 500 or equivalent premium paint, which enhances their durability and elegant appeal, with a total of seven layers of paint and primer, baked onto the metal coil. This then eliminates the need for a separate exterior painting service.
Installing metal shingles systems usually begins from the eave of the roof, up. The shingles are attached to the roof using nail and either special built-in hems or clips. After installing the first row of shingles, most roofing contractors begin staggering the shingles and adding rows on one side of the roof. This is to make sure that every new diagonal run of shingles would have as many shingles as possible for greater durability and a more efficient installation process.
