You might be surprised to know that legitimate roofing contractors actually prefer homeowners who ask a lot of questions. It shows how much the homeowner cares about the results of their roof replacement project. In this blog, local trusted roofing contractor NC Rebuild, Inc. answers some of the most common questions we get asked, so you can go straight to your project-specific questions.
Should I Stay In the House During Installation?
The short answer is: no. Roof replacement will involve a lot of dust, noise and installers going back and forth in your home. It will disrupt your daily routine and the noise can be upsetting for your children and pets. This is why you should factor in the potential costs of temporary accommodations, if you don’t have a family who can take you in during installation. As your roofing contractor, it is our responsibility to make sure your project will stay on schedule.
How Long Does Roof Replacement Usually Take?
While it certainly does take longer than residential roof repair, a typical roof replacement time table varies depending on various factors. For example, a traditional three-tab shingle roof has a shorter installation time than a tile or slate roof. The roofing structure may require repairs or may need to be updated to comply with current building codes. And, of course, the bigger the roof area is, the longer the installation time. In general, a typical roof of about 1,000 to 2,000 square feet may take up to three days to finish.
I’m Thinking of Upgrading My Roof. What Materials Can I Choose From?
Sloped residential roofs can be replaced with a different material. In addition to asphalt shingles, you can pick tiles, slate, wood shakes and metal, among others. These materials are not interchangeable, and there are conditions that have to be met. First, the roofing structure should be able to support the weight of the new roof. Switching from an asphalt shingle roof to a metal one should be easy, but switching to a tile one may require additional support. You also have to be aware that maintenance requirements are different. Wood shakes require a lot of maintenance; metal roofs are a lot less.
